- About Us -
William J. Riley Plumbing & Heating Co., Inc. was founded in
April 1977 by William J. Riley.
Bill started the business out of his home and eventually moved it to his garage.
Working on very large condominium projects with
over 25 employees helped establish Riley Plumbing in the
plumbing industry. As the new construction market died,
Riley Plumbing scaled back its work force and worked on
more Industrial and Commercial work.
In 1987 the shop moved from the garage to 205
Hallene Rd. In the Fall of 1993 the company made a
strong shift into the service and repair market as the
industry slowly recovered from the banking crisis of the
early Nineties. There was no new construction in the
area, therefore the change was essential and at the same
time FLAT RATE PRICING was introduced. In the Fall of
1999 the shop moved from Hallene Rd. one block to 22
Dewey Ave. It was a downsizing that was a long time in
coming. The move was very quick and allowed for better
management.
This is where we remain today working with family everyday.
Elizabeth, Bill and Corinne’s daughter joined
the business temporarily in 1988 and has never left. She
now serves as office manger and our “ Girl Friday”.
She’s the one you usually talk to when you call and
she knows many of you by name and address.
Michael Riley has worked here on and off since he
was in high school. He returned back in 2002 serving now
as our certified backflow tester and purchasing agent.
Michael Muzzy has also returned. He worked for
Bill as an apprentice back in the early 90’s and left
after he and Elizabeth married. (you know how it is
working for your new father in law) After many years as
a journeyman plumber and supply house manager he
returned as the Supervisor and estimator to help manage
the business into the future. As for more family...the
grandchildren, Michaela & Robert occasionally show
up to do some filing. A few of you may have met Rob who
occasionally helps Dad out on weekends.
Serving the Industry
Since starting the company in 1977 Bill and his wife Corinne have been very active
in the Rhode Island Association of Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Contractors.
Bill has been an officer in the local PHCC and served a three year term in a National
capacity as Zone One Director on the Board of Directors for the National PHCC Association
in the Nineties. He is also a member of QSC and is also active in many other organizations
that strive to improve the Plumbing & Heating Industries. Early in the year 2000 Bill was
appointed to the RI State Apprenticeship Committee. In January 2001 he was appointed the
RI Plumbing Board of Examiners and continues to serve in those positions today.
Corinne became the National PHCC Woman's Auxiliary Treasurer serving for four years and held many positions
at the National and state levels. Today Corinne is the State Executive officer for the RIPHCC
striving to better the plumbing and heating industry here in RI. Bill now also serves as the
treasurer for the RI Backflow Preventer Association which works in RI to better education people
about cross contamination of our water supply.
They continue to travel the country learning more about the industry, sharing ideas and developing
professional relationships. They have traveled to Washington DC for the past 15 years to the PHCC
Leadership and Legislative conference to meet with RI congressmen to discuss legislative matters
that affect our industry and business practices working for the betterment of all.
They have truly done the leg work to help their industry!
